TITLE: Mechanical Designer
REPORTS TO: Mechanical Engineering Supervisor
DEPT: Mechanical Engineering

Retrotech, Inc., a recognized leader in Distribution Center and Warehouse automation, is seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to join our team. The Mechanical Designer is an individual responsible for developing and supporting automated systems and equipment designs for project work scopes.


• Prepare layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for automated material handling components and systems using the Autodesk suite of products
• Research and develop mechanical designs within the boundaries of the project work scope, schedule and budget
• Follow industry, company and department standards and keep current as necessary.
• Complete design efforts with appropriate supporting information
• Analyze various design requirements and recommends possible solutions or alternate constructions
• Prepares and evaluates tolerance stack-ups
• Produce and complete material lists and component specifications for purchasing
• Work in conjunction with other company departments and the customer when completing designs. Other departments will include the commercial team, engineering teams, manufacturing, and field/installation teams
• Provide timely updates to Mechanical Engineer Project Leader and Mechanical Engineering Supervisor for progress
• Travel to customer sites for information gathering as necessary
• Assist in installation, testing, and de-bug of mechanical components
• Other special duties as directed by the Mechanical Engineering Supervisor


• A.S. in Engineering/Drafting or relevant experience
• Highly organized with excellent technical preparation and document management
• Ability to travel throughout North America to support project design and installations (~20% travel)
• Ability to operate in a team environment with minimal supervision and communicate clearly to the intended audience
• Possess the knowledge and experience to recognize when problems surface or are looming, and proactively bring the correct people together to solve these problems
• Represent the interests of Retrotech when interacting with customers and vendors
• Ability to safely climb ladders, work at heights and navigate narrow catwalks


• Experience with Design/Drafting software, such as AutoCad, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Factory Design Suite, vendor specific drafting modules
• Desk top software - Microsoft Office Suite
• Operating Systems - Windows
